A 22-year-old woman, who was getting ready for her wedding at a salon in Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi, was allegedly shot dead by her former boyfriend on Sunday. The woman, who was shot multiple times, was rushed to the hospital where doctors declared her dead.
According to reports, the incident took place only hours before the wedding when the woman, identified as Kajal from Datia in Madhya Pradesh, was getting her makeup done and was in the final stage of getting ready. Just then, a man, identified as Deepak, barged into the salon in a rage and demanded that she come out as she had betrayed him.
“Kajal bahar aao, tumne humein dhokha diya hai (Come out, Kajal. You have betrayed me),” said Deepak as per a report published by NDTV. The alleged shooter reportedly followed the bride and her family to Jhansi.
Police have registered a case and have formed two teams to look for the shooter. Eyewitnesses from the salon said the accused stormed into the salon, shouting at the woman and brandishing a gun with his face covered by a handkerchief.
There is CCTV footage of Deepak running after shooting Kajal. He is on the run. “My sister was getting ready. He came and asked her to come with him. When my sister refused, he broke the door and shot her,” the bride’s sister Neha told NDTV.
“His name is Deepak and he is from our village. It was my sister’s wedding today. She had gone to the beauty parlour to get ready. He carried a backpack and had a handkerchief tied around his face. He asked my sister to come with her. He also asked her why she betrayed him,” she was quoted as saying.
Apart from her sister, there were three other women at the salon with the bride. Owner of the salon and witness to the crime, Jhanvi Jha said the man asked Kajal to come out, but she refused and bolted the door. But, he broke through the glass door, shot her and ran away.
“The man who shot the woman is from her village. He knew her. Why he shot her is a matter of investigation. Upon speaking to the family we found that they were visiting Jhansi for the wedding. The man followed her here and shot her,” a senior police officer told NDTV.
