BHUBANESWAR: Simple Mohanty, a Class X student of SAI International School here, has brought laurels to the State by bagging a top position in the prestigious British Council Stamp Design Competition held in the UK recently. A total of 2,300 schools from India, Sri Lanka and the UK participated in the competition. The competition was an initiative of the British Council’s Connecting Classrooms Programme supported by the Royal Mail of the UK. For the final round, 10 stamps were shortlisted for the award. Simple’s stamp was one among the top five in the ‘group’ category. A dedicated team of teachers guided her throughout, said school Chairman B K Sahoo.  Earlier in June, as part of the Global School Partnership, another initiative of the British Council, the chairman along with two teachers and nine students visited  Chosen Hill School in Gloucestershire, UK. They went around places like Oxford University, Buckingham Palace and Gloucestershire Cathedral. The purpose was to provide international exposure to the students, explained Jessica Patnaik, international coordinator. In a reciprocal gesture, three teachers and a student of Chosen Hill School have come calling to SAI on October 21. They will stay here till October 26. The group  visited Puri, Konark, Satapada and Nandankanan. They were also hosted by Governor M C Bhandare.   The two schools have decided to make the exchange programme an annual affair.
