New Delhi: A pro-government Chinese daily has come down heavily against India over the recent incidents involving traders. 'The Global Times' claims that Indian diplomat S Balachandran who fainted in a Shanghai court on Saturday tried to "secretly" take away two detained Indian nationals under the pretence of going to the toilet.

The daily also refuted reports of Balachandran being ill-treated by Chinese authorities, accusing the Indian government and the media of making too much of a fuss about the incident.

Indian traders had been illegally detained and reportedly tortured by Chinese suppliers for non-payment of dues.

In another ugly incident, an Indian diplomat based in Shanghai was allegedly "manhandled" in a court while two others compatriots were tortured and detained, prompting India to lodge a strong protest with the Chinese government.
