Chicago city shuts down in a bid to save costs
The reduced-service days will save the city more than $8 million.

Chicago: In a bid to save costs during these times of recession, the American city of Chicago closed services on Monday making it a reduced-service day, all to curb expenses and restore its much troubled budget.

All services not directly related to public safety, like City Hall, public libraries, health clinics and most city offices and civil services will be closed.

According to officials reduced-service days will save the city more than $ million US dollars.

However, isn't the best deal for the government worker, who will not get paid on such days.

As part of the 2009 budget, the city will observe three such days when certain services will not be operative. These will be unpaid days for all employees.

What's your reaction?
