Centre seeks report from UP govt on law and order
The Home Ministry has asked the UP govt to inform it about the steps being taken to maintain peace in the state.

New Delhi: Expressing concern over spate of alleged rapes and murder, the Centre has sought a report from the Uttar Pradesh government on the prevailing law and order situation in the state.

Citing media reports, the Home Ministry asked the UP government to provide information about the incidents of rape, alleged suicide of a jailed medical officer and general law and order situation in the state, official sources said.

The Home Ministry has also asked the state government to inform it about the steps being taken to maintain peace and tranquility in the state, they said.

There have been allegations of rape in different parts of UP and the alleged suicide of deputy chief medical officer YS Sachan on Friday in judicial custody. These incidents were widely reported in the media.
