CHENNAI: Union Minister in the PMO V Narayanasamy on Sunday asserted here that the Centre will not be a “mute spectator” of human rights violations anywhere in the world, including Sri Lanka. Participating at the 80th birthday celebrations of veteran Congress leader and Tamil litterateur Kumaran Ananthan, he said the Congress workers and leaders were of the view that the US-sponsored resolution against Sri Lanka should be supported by India.Reiterating that leaders including GK Vasan, TNCC president BS Gnanadesikan, and himself had urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to support the resolution, he said the PM had promised to take appropriate steps after fully examining the text of the resolution.Slamming certain Tamil outfits and political parties whom he said were trying to create an impression that the Centre and Congress were against the resolution, he said, “The Centre is doing everything for the rehabilitation of Tamils in Lanka including construction of houses.”Speaking about the Koodankulam issue, Narayanasamy said that the State government was supporting the Centre on the matter.
