TUMKUR: Close on the heels of Tumkur proving to be a safe hideout for terrorists, as the plot to blast Chinnaswami stadium was hatched from here, the city would soon have an urban security infrastructure for better surveillance. The Police Department has conducted a survey to install CCTVs at 105 critical points at a cost of around Rs 50 lakh. A proposal was ready to be submitted to the urban development department in this regard. The police control room would have monitors to check movements of the suspected people through a network of specially designed CCTVs which would be functioning round the clock.Meanwhile, the population of the city has crossed three lakh as per the 2011 census, proposed to be upgraded to city corporation status, making it tough for the police to conduct surveillance manually. The city also has professional educational institutions with high student community.By making all these as strong points, the Police Department has prepared a proposal indicating critical points at which the cameras should be installed.Following the news of terrorists making Tumkur a hide out SP T R Suresh was quick enough to get a survey conducted in a short span of time and prepared a proposal for the urban security infrastructure. The same was brought to the notice of the concerned city MLA Sogadu Shivanna who in turn had managed to convince the Urban Development Minister S Sureshkumar recently. The SP told Express that the urban security infrastructure will also help keep a tab on traffic violations especially hit and run cases on the national highways.
