New Delhi: Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar on Friday withdrew his petition to the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) in which he had challenged the government's move to drop his name from the list of candidates for the post of CBI Director. Kumar had alleged that he was overlooked for the post and his name excluded from the list of three IPS officers who were shortlisted for the post of CBI Director.
Neeraj Kumar was third in the seniority list yet his batch junior Atul, DG, Home Guards, UP, was recommended superseding him. 1974 batch Bihar cadre officer Ranjit Singh has already been named as the new CBI chief. The other candidate in the race was AC Sinha, DG of National Investigation Agency (1975-batch IPS officer of Haryana cadre).
An official order had on Thursday said that Sinha has been appointed as CBI Director for a "period of two years from the date of assumption of office". He will take over from the present CBI Director AP Singh who is retiring on November 30.
