Ranchi: Pradeep Mahto, the brother of former Jharkhand deputy chief minister Sudhir Mahto, has allegedly committed suicide in Jamshedpur city, police said on Sunday.
According to police, Pradeep Mahto, 41, committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan in the drawing room of his home.
Pradeep is the younger brother of Sudhir Mahto, who was deputy chief minister in the Madhu Koda and Shibu Soren governments.
Pradeep was the organiser of the Durga Puja in the steel city of Jamshedpur.
On Saturday, he attended a cultural programme and returned home by 2300 hrs IST. He was watching the cricket match between India and Pakistan when he received a call on his mobile after midnight. He reportedly had an argument with the caller.
"The call seems to have irritated him," said Sudhir Mahto, giving details of the suicide.
Pradeep's wife and son were asleep when he was speaking on the mobile on Saturday night.
On Sunday morning, when they woke up they found Pradeep hanging from the ceiling fan. He was taken to the Tata Memorial Hospital (TMH) where he was declared brought dead by the doctors.
This is the second tragedy for Sudhir Mahto involving his brothers.
His elder brother, Nirmal Mahto, who was founder of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), was shot dead nearly two decades ago.
