BANGALORE: The state government would enhance the salaries and perks of police personnel deployed to counter Maoists, who are reportedly active in Shimoga, Dakshina Kannada, Chickmagalur and Udupi districts, by oneandhalf times that of their regular pay scales.
Home Minister R Ashok addressed the press here on Wednesday that in a recent meeting chaired by the chief minister it was resolved both to end the naxal menace as well as implement various developmental schemes in the naxalinfested areas in the state as announced. The police personnel who would be deployed in such areas would get all necessary benefits during their stay and their salaries would be disbursed on the basis of 2002 pay scales, instead of 1999, he said.

The police personnel would also be supplied with bulletproof jackets, newer arms and night vision equipments.

Stating that government has already initiated implementing various developmental schemes, the minister said: "We have identified villages near forests where people live in the constant fear of naxal menace."

Ashok clarified that the proposed Commando training centre would come up at Kudremukh, on revenue land belonging to the government. "We will utilise the infrastructure facilities, including houses, and other logistics which were already developed by the KIOCL," the minister said.
