SAMBALPUR: It’s advantage BJD in the second phase of panchayat polls on Monday in western Odisha.  The party had reportedly won all the eight Zilla Parishad (ZP) seats in Balangir, two in Deogarh, three in Sonepur, four in Bargarh. However, the BJD had to share honours with the Congress in Nuapada, Jharsuguda and Kalahandi.In Balangir, BJD came out with flying colours in zones 22 and 23 in Bongamunda block, zones 30, 31 and 32 in Saintala and zones 7, 8 and 9 in Titlagarh. Similarly in Deogarh, it was whitewash for Congress with the BJD candidates winning from Riamal zones I and II. In Sonepur, BJD candidates Sujata Sethi, Himanshu Sekhar Biswal and Binapani Darwan won from Dungripali zones I, II and III respectively.In Sambalpur district, second phase polling was held in zones 1 of Maneswar, Jujumura, Jamankira and Naktideul zone II.Unofficial sources said BJD, which had just one member in the ZP last time, ended up winning Jamankira zone I represented by Lakshmibala Bohidar and Naktideul zone II which had BJD’s Sabita Mirdha in fray. However, the Congress wrested zones 1 of Maneswar and Jujumura.Balasore: Tentatively, the ruling party has bagged 24 ZP zones out of 29 zones that went to polls on Monday in three Northern Odisha districts of Balasore, Bhadrak and Mayurbhanj.Sources said BJD has reportedly captured all seven zones in Bhadrak followed by eight out of 11 in Balasore and nine of the 11 in Mayurbhanj district. While Congress managed to get three seats - two in Nilagiri block and one in Basta of Balasore district - Congress bagged one and another went in favour of an Independent in Mayurbhanj district. Barring a few incidents, the election was peaceful in the region.In a post-poll incident, a winning sarpanch candidate was attacked by his rival group when he was taking out a victory rally in Badapada panchayat in Basta block. The candidate Debashis Mohapatra has been admitted to the district headquarters hospital.
