BANGALORE: Union Minister for Medium and Small Scale Industries (MSME) Virbhadra Singh said the government plans to make the procurement policy obligatory throughout India after three years, as of now only the Union government and the Public Sector Units are falling under this category.He was speaking after inaugurating ‘Cliktronika’, a biannual exhibition and buyer-seller meet organised by the Consortium of Electronic Industries of Karnataka (CLIK), in association with similar interest groups, in order to boost the growth of MSMEs on Thursday.At present, only 20 percent of the department ie, PSUs at central level come under the purview of procurement policy. “If it is implemented all over India, taking state governments into confidence, then by 2020, the country will create 60 million jobs. Giving prime importance to this sector in PSUs has boosted the nation’s economy. The country recorded 45 per cent output and 40 per cent export and therefore, after the elections of UP, a bill will be tabled in the Parliament and make it mandatory to all states to adapt the procurement policy,” he said.PM Manmohan Singh gave a significant push to the MSME sector, the minister said and added “It is the PM who constituted the task force, specially to look into the matter related to MSMEs and provide quality in conducting business. The ministry of MSMEs will train 50 crore people by the end of 2020.”President of the CLIK Uma Reddy said, “The use of technology in medium and small scale industry is more in towns and other municipalities. The cities have reached the recycle stage, now it is high time that we look up to other small towns and introduce the technology there.”
