CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) is dependent on the BHEL for the timely completion of power generation projects, Chairman, TANGEDCO, Rajeev Ranjan said here on Monday. Speaking at a customer meet, organised by the BHEL’s Spares and Services Business Group located in Tiruchirapalli, Ranipet and New Delhi, Rajeev Ranjan said that the State Power Corporation and the BHEL shared a long, symbiotic relationship. Stating that the State government often reviewed the ongoing power projects to speed up commissioning, he said the power utility was dependent on BHEL for completion of projects, including the NTPC-TNEB joint venture Vallur Thermal Power Plant. Also, new power projects to the tune of 8,000 MW were being planned in Tamil Nadu. On the EB’s financial situation, Ranjan said that the power utility suffered a loss of `two per unit (actual rate of realisation vs cost of selling) and this could be set right only through measures like tariff revision which is likely to take effect after the statutory process of public consultation. On power restoration work in the cyclone-battered Cuddalore, he noted that power supply had been provided again to 15 lakh households . Director, Generation, TANGEDCO, K Balasubramanian lauded the BHEL for completing the Valuthur gas plant five months in advance. Executive Director, BHEL, AV Krishnan said that the PSU was committed to providing all business solutions under one roof for the energy sector from design to commissioning and after sales service. Barring TANGEDCO, representatives of organisations including Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited and Puduchery Power Corporation Limited participated.
