New Delhi: The formal announcement of the cancellation of Bahrain GP from the 2011 calendar and the rescheduling of the Indian GP to its original date of October 30 is not expected to be made before June 14, it has been reliably learnt.
The World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) members have been asked to send fax votes by June 14 about the cancellation of Bahrain GP based on the request by the Bahrain race organizers that the event be removed from this year’s calendar. A formal announcement is expected to be made subsequently.
It may be recalled that the WMSC’s decision on June 3 to reinstate Bahrain came in for a lot of criticism from all quarters prompting even Bernie Ecclestone, who was championing the cause of Bahrain till then, to do a u-turn and announced that the Bahrain GP couldn't be held.
The FIA tried to clear itself from the responsibility of the Bahrain fiasco by saying, "it was the responsibility of the Commercial Rights Holder (represented by Bernie) to perform all necessary prior due diligence in order to secure his calendar proposal to the WMSC. It was the representative of the Commercial Rights holder who proposed the changes to the calendar."
The June 3 decision had also meant that the Indian GP, which was originally scheduled for October 30, was postponed to December 11. This also led to the change of date for FIA’s annual awards gala which was shifted to December 11 instead of the original December 9.
