B Ed syllabus tweaked with focus on TET: Vice-Chancellor
Follow us:WhatsappFacebookTwitterTelegram.cls-1{fill:#4d4d4d;}.cls-2{fill:#fff;}Google NewsThe B Ed syllabus has now been modified to help candidates clear the Teachers Eligibility Test (TET),  Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University (TNTEU) Vice-Chancellor Prof G Viswanathan has said.Speaking at a recent meeting for college principals at the N K Thirumalachariar National College of Education, he said a modification had been made in the existing B Ed syllabus to accommodate a new elective paper ‘Professional Course for Teachers Eligibility’.  “This [move] will facilitate students to clear the TET at all levels successfully,” he said.When he informed the participants that TNTEU had made necessary amendments in the existing B Ed regulations to conduct practical examination every year prior to the theory exams, it was welcomed by all the chairmen and principals of various institutions.Stating that 35,000 to 50,000 vacancies for teaching positions in schools and colleges were being filled every year by the State, he assured that all students pursuing B Ed and M Ed degrees could be assured of employment opportunities.Insisting that B Ed and M Ed degree programmes must be conducted only through the regular mode, he said, “The quality of teacher education should also be improved by strictly adhering to the infrastructure, instructional and manpower norms of UGC, NCTE and the  government of Tamil Nadu, besides the TNTEU. Otherwise, the affiliation will be cancelled.”Reiterating that attendance was compulsory to appear for the exams, he said that if any institution was found admitting students to write the exam on the basis of “their own decision”, appropriate action would be taken. Warning colleges not to charge excess fee, the vice-chancellor said that if fees over and above the structure fixed by the state government was charged, the affiliation could be cancelled.Opening up to the teaching community, he said, “Teachers should have patience, passion for teaching, true compassion for the students, dedication and willingness to help others.”Principal of N K Thirumalachariar National College of Education, S Vasanthi, welcomed the gathering and N Kalai Arasi, associate professor, proposed the vote of thanks.
