BANGALORE: Next time when you go for shopping on a busy road, you don’t have to scratch your head for parking two-wheelers. If everything goes well, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will soon introduce automated multi-storeyed two-wheeler parking system in Bangalore. The concept, said to be the first of its kind, has been conceptualised by Technical Advisor to BBMP Commissioner H Raja Simha. According to him, it will not only solve the present parking problem for the vehicle users, but will make more space for pedestrians.Simha explains that the two-wheeler automated parking system can be built across 30 meter length and 15 meter breadth. Out of the 15 meter breadth, 10 meter will be taken from footpath and five from road. The system will be completely built with steel on pillars, thus allowing ground floor for pedestrians to move without any hassles. The automated two-wheeler parking service can accommodate 80 two-wheelers at a time. There will be 10 tiers and each tier will accommodate eight two-wheelers.There will be a suspension equipment which can move vertically as well as horizontally. This equipment will carry the two-wheeler from the ground floor and vice versa. There will be a machine which will issue user coupons.Simha says that BBMP can allow the walls of these multi-storied parking lot for advertisements. This will get their money back within a year of investment. Such type of two-wheeler parking facility is ideal to construct near Metro stations. “The BBMP Commissioner, Mayor and the Council have agreed to this proposal. It is the first of its kind and I have received patent for this idea,” Simha said.‘Need of the hour’When contacted, Praveen Sood, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), told Express That there are more than 40 lakh vehicles in Bangalore. The parking facility has been made for only one lakh vehicles. The idea of automated two-wheeler parking system is ideal and it will certainly reduce the parking problems. In fact, this is the need for the hour, the ACP explained.
