THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A group of teachers and students from eight schools under the CMI diocese in the city was given training to be part of ThinkQuest, which is an online learning platform that helps students collaborate with their peers around the world to develop projects. Representatives of the Oracle Education Foundation, which hosts ThinkQuest, organised a training session at the Christ Nagar Higher Secondary School the other day where the 32-member group had a taste of the online learning platform. Schools can register with ThinkQuest and get the teachers registered. The teachers, in turn, can get the students registered. Though the projects posted by the teachers would automatically be updated on the web, the students’ projects have to be vetted by the teacher community before being released to the web.The Christ Nagar schools in Kowdiar, including the International School, its co-schools in Thiruvallom, Kuttippuram, Pulinkunnu, Mohamma and Chempakulam, took to the training session in ThinkQuest.ThinkQuest has a project environment that supports collaborative learning. It conducts technology competitions that challenge students to solve practical problems, it has a library of such student-developed projects visited by thousands of web learners and a professional development platform for educators. According to Christ Nagar School authorities, the training was sought to give the students and teachers the possibility of a wide world of collaborative learning which would build up teamwork and cross-cultural understanding. It has free teaching tools that allow schools to easily integrate project learning and technology into their curriculum. Through the platform, children would have access to a wealth of exemplary projects created by teachers and global projects designed by Oracle Education Foundation partners, including National Geographic, the Chicago Field Museum, and the British Council.
