Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday laid the foundation stone for second government medical college of Jaipur in the premises of Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS) here.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday laid the foundation stone for second government medical college of Jaipur in the premises of Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS) here.

The new college, a constituent college of the RUHS, will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 400 crore and will share the patient load of Sawai Man Singh hospital and also provide opportunity for more students in merit to seek admission in the medical course, he said.

The government plans to open more medical colleges in the state and necessary formalities for the same were being done with the Medical Council of India, Gehlot further said.

Health Minister A A Khan said that the new hospital will have state-of-the-art equipments which will provide better environment and facilities for research.

"Total seats for MBBS course in existing seven government medical colleges across the state were 750 in 2008 and now it has increased to 1,300. The number of PG seats has also been increased from 450 to 694," he said.
