Armed robbers on Tuesday looted jewellery and cash worth about Rs. 70 lakh in Bihar's Buxar and Gaya districts, police said. The robbers, said to be eleven in number, barged into the Muthoot Finance branch office at P.P. road under Town police station area and locked the employees in the kitchen before looting jewellery worth Rs. 50 lakh and Rs. 1.75 lakh cash from the locker before making good their escape by a vehicle, the Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sidharth Mohan Jain said.
The robbers injured four bank employees and security guards with pistol butts and snatched a rifle from a guard during the robbery, he said adding an FIR has been lodged by the Muthoot Finance branch manager Sudendra Singh and an investigation was going on in the matter. Singh said that the robbers came to the branch office as customers wanting to secure loan during lunch time and took advantage of lack of security in the locality and with full knowledge of the local market remaining closed on Tuesday.
In a related incident in Gaya district, two motorcycle-borne robbers looted a bag containing jewellery worth about Rs. 15 lakh from a jeweller Sanjay Sah in Tarwan village while the latter was trying to open his shop, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ganesh Kumar said. A case has lodged and raids were on to nab the robbers, he said.
