HYDERABAD: Here's some good news for those aspiring to do post graduation in medicine. The Medical Council of India has given approval for additional 170 seats for the state from this year. Of the 170 seats, 26 seats are in government colleges while the rest are for various private medical colleges.The SV Medical College in Tirupati will get 16 seats, the Andhra Medical College in Visakhapantam will get 9 seats and one additional seat will be added at the Gandhi Medical College in Hyderabad.With the sanction of the additional seats, the total PG medical seats available in the convener quota has risen to 1,733 including 1,139 seats in government colleges and 594 in private colleges.In fact, about 1,174 seats are available in private medical colleges in the state, but only 50 per cent of them are filled in the convener quota while the rest are managements seats.The counselling for the PG seats is scheduled to be held on Monday at the NTR Health University campus in Vijayawada.The local area Osmania University students must attend the counselling from April 16 to 18, AU area students from April 19 to 21 and SVU area students from April 22 to 23.Counselling for 15 per cent unreserved seats will be held on April 25 and 26. The candidates must reach the venue by 8.30 am.All selected candidates must pay Rs 10,600 and Rs 13,600 for admission into government and private colleges respectively on the day of counselling.
