HYDERABAD: Finding excuses for delay in submission of homework and assignments may become a thing of the past. An automatic article generator application devised by SETU software systems private limited can now generate reports against a specific query by parsing through the information available in a fixed domain. In its nascent stage, it is part of the automatic text summarization tool being developed by the three-year old startup at the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIIT-H).“Artificial intelligence has become a part of our daily lives and applications which involve human cognitive tasks are being used to a great extent in developing technology, without us realizing it,” says Pingali Prasad, CEO and co-founder of SETU. The information technology company was started by Prasad and his Ph.D mentor Professor K Vasudeva Varma. The e-learning service developed by the company called myDrona is being developed to function on Aakash, the student-friendly tablet which is likely to hit the market in February, 2012. The tool is presently being run a beta version.“The service is available as a hand-held myDrona device, priced keeping in mind maximum outreach. However, since Aakash is being fine-tuned, we plan to develop the tool as a memory stick specific to the school curriculum, from nursery to plus two,” shares Prasad. The memory stick will house audio-video data, e-book content, power-points, lectures, experiments and assignments specific to the syllabus of each standard. Every year, students will be able to exchange or purchase a fresh card according to the level reached. The product is targeted at students from lower-middle class for ease of access to online information, even in the absence of internet connectivity. “The life of a doubt in a student’s mind is short-lived. This tool will help them to check on information spot on. Also, this ensures education-focused internet access, addressing parental concerns of misuse of technology,” explains Prasad. The company, which focuses primarily on semantics-based research, has also designed social media monitor which can rate sentiments expressed by people on the social media on a given product, debate or issue. The application can be used to judge response to a product or keep a watch on those who pose a threat to security issues. As simple as changing a memory cardThe memory stick will house audio-video data, e-book content, power-points, lectures, experiments and assignments specific to the syllabus of each standard.
