NEDUMBASSERY: Giving a boost to the tourism industry in the State, around 1,200 tourists will land in Kochi airport by chartered flights on Monday.An equal number of travellers will arrive here by scheduled flights also, airport sources said. Around 2,400 foreign tourists who will reach Kochi by sea will leave through the airport on the same day.Six chartered flights carrying foreign tourists mainly from Germany will be operated by Quick Aviation, Air Berlin, Condor and Tuifly. Quick Aviation will operate two flights. The B-737-800 airplane on Munich-Kuwait-Kochi-Kuwait-Munich sector will bring 160 passengers and return with 172 passengers. The second flight on Dusseldorf-Kuwait-Kochi-Kuwait-Dusseldorf sector will arrive here with 175 passengers and leave with 158 tourists.Tuifly agency will also operate two chartered flights with B 737-800 aircraft. 160 passengers will reach here from Munich via Bahrain and same number of passengers will board the return flight to Munich. Tulfly’s second flight will carry 140 tourists from Frankfurt via Bahrain to Kochi and return with same number of passengers to Frankfurt.Air Berlin and Condor will operate one flight each. Air Berlin non-stop flight will carry maximum number of passengers, 282 on board of A-330-200 airbus, from Dusseldorf to Kochi and return with 278 passengers. Condor will operate B 767-300 aircraft to bring 268 tourists from Frankfurt to Kochi and leave with 264 passengers on board.The charter programme is a connecting link as part of an Air to Sea / Sea to Air transfer of tourists. Luxury cruise liner AIDA DIVA on its trip from Muscat via Mumbai and Kochi to Colombo will arrive at Cochin Port during November 13-15. The tourists arriving by the chartered flights and scheduled flights, around 2400, will board the cruise vessel for onward journey to Colombo. Almost an equal number of tourists from thecruise vessel will board the aircrafts and fly back to Europe. Thus there will be a transfer of almost 5000 tourists on the day.Airport director ACK Nair has convened a meeting of all agencies on Friday for an effective coordination to make the operations smooth and hassle-free. All agencies have assured their full cooperation. In the light of global recession, when the tourist sector suffers badly, the arrival of 5000 tourists will be a great advantage to the toursism sector in the State.
