Aditya jumped ten places in the latest rankings issued by the Badminton World Federation to be ranked number one with 18776 points.

After PV Sindhu's meteoric rise in 2013, when she became the first Indian female to win a singles medal at the World Championships, Indian badminton is witnessing another star in the making. Aditya Joshi from Dhar, Madhya Pradesh, became the first male junior badminton player from India to be ranked top in the world.

According to a report in the Hindustan Times, Aditya jumped ten places in the latest rankings issued by the Badminton World Federation to be ranked number one with 18776 points.

Indonesia's Christie Jonatan and China's Zhao Jun Peng are ranked second and third respectively. Another Indian, Harsheel Dani, is also in the top ten with eighth ranking.

Aditya's father, Atul Joshi, who is a badminton coach with SAI's Special Area Games, described it as a New Year gift. "It came a day late, but yes, it's a New Year present for me," he told HT.

Aditya became the junior national champion in 2013 after winning the title in Chandigarh. He is a member of the Air India and has also won senior national team runners-up trophy with them. Aditya also won the singles and doubles crowns in the Sushant Chipalkatti Memorial India Junior International Badminton Championships in September.
