HYDERABAD:  Intensifying their agitation for separate Telangana, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Monday announced a series of agitations including blocking national highways and massive public meetings to be taken up in the region before the commencement of the next Parliament session. ABVP leaders met in the OU campus on Monday and chalked out their action plan. ABVP national executive member T Ramakrishna said they would lay siege to national highways on July 13. “We will block the highways connecting Vijayawada, Mumbai and other parts to the region. Protests would also be held at all important junctions in the city,” he said.Protesting against the arrests and illegal detention of student activists, ABVP also gave a call to conduct classes on the roads on July 15. “Students should come out of the classrooms and study on the roads. We appeal to the teachers to cooperate with us,” Ramakrishna added. On the issue of the Assembly Speaker accepting the resignations of Telangana leaders, ABVP said they would wait till July 17 for him to take a decision. “If the resignations are not accepted by then, we will organise a ‘Chalo Speaker’ protest on July 18 and lay siege to his residence or the Assembly,” he warned.Ahead of the Parliament session, ABVP also decided to organise rallies and meetings across the region on July 27. Christened as Telangana Vidyarthi Samara Bheri, the rallies and meetings would be organised at the headquarters of all Telangana districts. Meanwhile, ABVP condemned the arrests of students and demanded their immediate release. They also warned of serious consequences if the ministers from the region, who tendered their resignations, participate in official programmes.
