The arrested have been named in six FIRs,” the SP said.Meanwhile, Dhayanidhi Alagiri and P R Palanichamy have moved the Madurai Bench seeking anticipatory bail. However, the bench on Wednesday adjourned the hearing on the bail plea of P R Palanichamy to August 13.In a related development, a PIL plea was made at the Madurai Bench herefor a CBI probe into the 16,000 crore ‘granite quarrying scam’ in Melur.Meanwhile, revenue officials detected illegal quarrying activities in E Malampatti and Tiruvadavur during an inspection on Wednesday. Days after registering an FIR against leading miners for alleged illegal granite quarrying in different parts of Madurai, Police arrested 21 persons on charges of theft, encroachment and trespass into the Government land in Melur on Wednesday.

Totally 12 cases were registered against various granite companies on charges of illegal mining. Those booked include Dhayanidhi Alagiri, son of union Chemicals Minister M K Alagiri, and P R Palanichamy, owner of PRP Exports.
