21 held in Madurai granite mining case

Those booked include Dhayanidhi Alagiri, son of union Chemicals Minister M K Alagiri, and P R Palanichamy, owner of PRP Exports. Five special teams, formed under the Madurai SP V Balakrishnan, arrested 21 persons after raiding the quarries.“We arrested 21 persons belonging to 4 companies namely PRP Exports, Sindu granite, Sri Om Sri, and Madura Granites. The arrested have been named in six FIRs,” the SP said.Meanwhile, Dhayanidhi Alagiri and P R Palanichamy have moved the Madurai Bench seeking anticipatory bail. However, the bench on Wednesday adjourned the hearing on the bail plea of P R Palanichamy to August 13.In a related development, a PIL plea was made at the Madurai Bench herefor a CBI probe into the 16,000 crore ‘granite quarrying scam’ in Melur.Meanwhile, revenue officials detected illegal quarrying activities in E Malampatti and Tiruvadavur during an inspection on Wednesday.
