Twenty accused in the Shil-Phata building collapse in Mumbra this year, have been remanded to judicial custody till December 2 by a local court in Thane.
Thane Sessions Judge M C Khadke sent them to judicial custody on Monday after being produced in a packed court room, with onlookers and kin of 74 people, who lost their lives in the fatal collapse in April at Shil-Daighar.
Also, the hearing in the bail application moved by arrested accused Ramesh Inamdar (civic engineer) was posted to November 25.
Those chargesheeted in the case include civic officials DMC Deepak Chavan, DMC Srikant Sarmokdam, AMC Babasaheb Andale, AMC Shyam Thorbole; engineers Ramesh Inamdar, Subash Rawal; NCP corporator Hira Patil; builders Abdul Salim Aziz Siddiqui and Jamil Ahmed Jalaluddin Shaikh; police constable Jehangir Umarali Sayyed, middlemen, material suppliers and collection agents.
A total of 23 accused were arrested in connection with the case, while four more are still at large. On April 4, a seven-storey building collapsed at Shil-Phata near Mumbra in Thane district which claimed as many as 74 lives and left over 60 injured.
