100 Dancers In Matching Outfits Celebrate Tamil Tradition With Energetic Valli Kummiyattam
Valli Kumiyattam is a traditional folk dance that is generally performed by those belonging to the Kurumbar community.

Tamil Nadu takes pride in being one of the cultural hubs of the country with its rich heritage and art forms. The state practices various old traditions which are passed down from one generation to another. Recently, the Vennandur area of Namakkal district has been garnering attention as more than 100 people performed Oyilattam and Valli Kumiyattam. What mesmerised the audience was the stunning Valli Kumiyattam group performance where the dancers wore the same coloured clothes and enthralled the onlookers.

Valli Kumiyattam is a traditional folk dance generally performed by the Kurumbar community. The dancers sing traditional folk songs about Valli, a tribal girl born to Nambi Maharaja and Nangai Mohini was raised in Vellimala and married Lord Murugan. The performance of Valli Kummiyattam narrates the tale of the Tamil deity Valli from her birthright to her marriage with Lord Murugan. The enchanting dance performance has graceful movements and the storytelling is quite engaging.

The state of Tamil Nadu takes pride in being one of the cultural hubs of the country. The land is the birthplace of many age-old traditions and has a rich cultural heritage, one which has been passed down for generations. One art form that is almost becoming lost to the people of Tamil Nadu is the ancient dance form of Kummi Attam.

Kummi Attam dance is rooted in Hindu mythology and every variant of it is believed to be an ode to the tale of the gods. Oyilattam and Isan Valli Kumiyattam festival was recently held in an attempt to revive the traditional art. It was held in the Mariyamman temple complex, Samayapura, an ancient Hindu temple in Tiruchirappalli district in Tamil Nadu.

The festival celebrated the rich traditions through graceful and eye-captivating performances. Over 100 people, including children, men and women participated in the dance and enthralled the spectators with their vibrant energy.
