“Me Hoy Minoy” Phrase Explained
“Me hoy minoy” doesn’t mean anything specific. People say it as a way of participating in absurdist humor or referencing the children’s show Spongebob Squarepants. As with other nonsense memes, it’s funniest when it’s most out of context—for example, people will say it at the club or comment it on a TikTok of a rap battle.
Me Hoy Minoy Origin
The phrase comes from a 2002 episode of Spongebob Squarepants. In season two, episode 14, “Frankendoodle,” Spongebob finds a magic pencil that brings drawings to life. He draws a character named DoodleBob, but the drawing begins terrorizing Spongebob and his friends and fights for the magic pencil. DoodleBob can’t speak, but says variations of the phrase “me hoy minoy” throughout the episode. DoodleBob appears again in season 11, episode 14, “Doodle Dimension.” He’s also an antagonist in the spin-off video game “Drawn to Life: Spongebob SquarePants Edition.”
People have made DoodleBob memes since 2013. Early memes would use DoodleBob as a reaction image or insert his catchphrase, “Mehoyminoy” (with or without spaces), into meme videos and social media posts. Other memes insinuate that the phrase “Me hoy minoy” is profound and deep using emotional reaction images.
Me Hoy Minoy Meme Examples
Many “me hoy minoy” memes pretend the phrase has meaning. For example, Fruit Roll-Ups posted a meme about DoodleBob captioning it, “ME HOY MINOY (Translation: SpongeBob Meme Edition Fruit Roll-Ups are available now!!)” In another viral TikTok, user @girl_on_couch says the phrase in different intonations, pretending it’s meaningful slang.
A TikTok-viral song turned “me hoy minoy” into an innuendo. The song, called “Bikini Bottom” was released by artist Shaavani (@thats.shaavani) on May 27, 2024. Its chorus, “Cause once I go give him that mihoy minoy noy,” became a popular TikTok audio to use in memes. Another TikTok audio spawned memes of an emo DoodleBob singing, “Because me hoy will be minoy/ That I will fall for you.”
A battle rapper went viral for referencing DoodleBob. User @playbooyx uploaded the original rap by Street Hymns to TikTok. Street Hymns performed a new verse responding to it going viral in a TikTok uploaded to his own account, @streethymns. The rap opens with the lines, “What I’m ‘bout to DO to Bob? DoodleBob! Mi hoy minoy!”
Other “me hoy minoy” memes use the phrase randomly. Whether someone uses it in a TikTok, in a comment, or as the caption to a post, “me hoy minoy” does not have to tie back to Spongebob or DoodleBob. Many users simply say the phrase to be random and funny, especially if it feels out of nowhere to say it.

Erm, what the sigma? “Erm, what the sigma?” is a TikTok meme in which a voice that sounds like the character Squidward from Spongebob Squarepants says the nonsense phrase. The original audio (or the phrase itself) is used to make fun of TikTok brain rot and Gen Alpha slang.
Boosie Fade A viral video of a man requesting a Boosie fade turned into a Spongebob Squarepants-related meme. In the meme image, the text reads, “Bruh wanted a Boosie fade but got this instead.” It’s above a picture of the character Patrick Star wearing a water bucket on his head.
Confused Mr. Krabs In 2016, a still from the show Spongebob Squarepants of the character Mr. Krabs looking around while the background blurs became a meme. The image is used in memes about being confused or panicked, and as a reaction image when someone posts something confusing or concerning.
