How to Reset Skylanders Toys and Figures
How to Reset Skylanders Toys and Figures
Sometimes you may wish to reset a Skylanders figure to its initial state. Maybe you bought a figure used, or you want to try its other skill upgrade path. It's simple to do, but also easily overlooked.
Steps

Using the Skylanders' Menu

Power on your game console, and ensure the Skylanders game you want to play is inserted properly. The directions for how to do this will vary depending on the console you are playing. See the documentation included with your console or via the manufacturer's website if you need help with the basic operations of your game console.

Plug in the appropriate Portal of Power accessory for your console and Skylanders entry, and start up the game. If you are playing Skylanders Imaginators on the Nintendo Switch console, you will not require a Portal of Power accessory. It instead uses the NFC chip reader in the JoyCon controller to detect Skylanders figures.

Place the Skylander figure you wish to reset onto the portal. You can either load an existing game file, or start a new one if you prefer.

Press the button on the controller that brings up the Skylander character's menu. You can do this when you are able to control your Skylander character in the game. On the Playstation 3, it is the Select button. On the Playstation 4, it is the Touchpad button. On the Xbox 360, it is the Back button. On the Xbox One, it is the View button. On the Nintendo Wii, it is the - button. On the Nintendo Wii U, it is the -/Select button. On the Nintendo Switch, it is the - button.

Find the option to Reset your Skylander within its menu. The location will differ depending on which Skylanders game you are playing. In Spyro's Adventure, move to the right to reach the "Manage" menu, and then choose the "Reset" option. In Giants, choose "Manage" and then the "Reset" option. In Swap Force, choose "Manage" and then the "Reset" option. In Trap Team, choose "Manage" and then the "Reset" option. In SuperChargers, move down the menu and choose "Reset" with a character or vehicle in focus to reset that specific figure. To change focus between character and vehicle figures, move left or right within the menu. In Imaginators, simply choose the "Reset" option.

Read the cautionary message, and choose "Yes" at the prompt. The game will give you a cautionary prompt before you reset, informing you that the Skylander figure will lose any progress or customization, and will revert to its initial experience level, money, and skill set. If you are okay with that, choose "Yes" to confirm at the prompt. The Skylander figure is then re-scanned as if it were just placed on the Portal of Power, and you will return to the game with your figure reset to its original state.

Using the Wii Skylanders Giants Game (for Traps and Crystals)

Power on your Wii or Wii U game console, and ensure the Skylanders Giants disc for Wii is inserted properly. Only the Wii version of Skylanders Giants works for this method, but it can be played on either a Wii or Wii U console, as Wii U is backwards compatible with Wii game discs.

Plug in the appropriate Portal of Power accessory to your console, and start up the game. To reset a Traptanium Trap, you will need to use a compatible portal from either Trap Team or SuperChargers, as they are the only two portals with slots for the traps to fit into.

Place a Skylander character figure that is compatible with Skylanders Giants onto the portal first. This should be a different figure than the one you are trying to reset. Load an existing game file (or start a new one if you prefer) and when it prompts you to place a Skylander on the Portal of Power, place a Skylander character figure that is compatible with Skylanders Giants onto the portal. This needs to be different than the figure you wish to reset.

Press the + button on the Wii Remote when you are able to control your character, and choose the option to return to the Main Menu. Returning to the main menu in this way is a necessary step. Accessing the settings directly from the pause menu instead may cause the process to fail.

Remove your compatible figure from the portal, replace it with the figure you wish to reset, and choose the "Settings" option. This step is best done once the main menu screen appears fully. If you are resetting a Traptanium Trap, simply place the trap into the designated trap slot on your Trap Team or SuperChargers portal. You will not require any other figure to be placed onto the portal itself in this particular case.

Choose the General option from the Settings menu.

Select the Reset Broken Toys option, and choose to reset the figure. Your figure should now be reset to its initial state, and will function as if it was never used.

What's your reaction?
