- The most efficient way to get Rare Candy is to participate in the GO Battle League.
- You can also get Rare Candies from completing Raid Battles, which you're likely already doing anyway.
- Rare Candies can also be given as research task or Adventure Sync rewards.
How to Get Rare Candy
Complete research tasks. One of the easiest ways to get Rare Candy in Pokémon GO when you're just starting out is to complete Special and Field Research tasks. Special Research tasks are assigned by Professor Willow, and Field Research tasks are obtained by spinning PokéStps. You can view your research tasks by tapping on the binoculars icon in the bottom-right corner of the Pokémon GO main screen, and then by tapping the Special or Today tab. Special Research tasks are a finite resource for Rare Candies, but Field Research tasks are a repeatable method (though you may need to cycle through a lot of Field Research tasks before you find one that gives Rare Candy as a reward).
Successfully complete Raid Battles. Raid Battles are boss fights that you take on with up to 20 other Trainers. In addition to giving out Stardust, Trainer XP, and Gym Badge XP, winning a Raid Battle nets you some item rewards—and one of those possible rewards is Rare Candies. You can get anywhere from 1 to 3 Rare Candies when you win a Raid Battle.
Win GO Battle League matches. In the GO Battle League, you must win 5 battles in a row to get all the rewards for your selected tier (Basic or Premium, the latter of which requires a Premium Battle Pass). You are guaranteed to get 3 Rare Candies from the Basic tier and 6 Rare Candies from the Premium tier. Go to the main menu and click on Battle. Join either the Basic or Premium tier and win at least 4 of the 5 battles. After you complete the five rounds of battle, you can enter the tier again to try for more Rare Candies.
Collect Rare Candies as a potential Adventure Sync reward. Adventure Sync allows Pokémon GO to track your walking distance even when the app is off. If you enable Adventure Sync, you can get weekly rewards for walking certain distances. You can collect Adventure Sync rewards at 9 a.m. local time on Mondays. If you walk 25km you can potentially get 3 Rare Candies, and if you walk 50km you can potentially get 5 Rare Candies. However, you can also potentially get a bundle of Silver Pinap Berries or a special Egg. You can avoid getting an Egg by keeping your Egg slots full in your Pokémon Box, which would then leave you with a chance of getting Rare Candies or Silver Pinap Berries for your Adventure Sync rewards. To enable Adventure Sync, tap on your avatar image in the bottom-left corner and tap the button that says Enable Adventure Sync in Settings for more rewards!. Click through any pop-ups your phone gives you, making sure to give Pokémon GO the permissions it asks for when they come up. To claim your Adventure Sync rewards, go to your profile and tap on the mystery berries under the "Rewards" banner once you've achieved them.
Complete Trainer Battles for a chance of winning Rare Candies. You can potentially win one Rare Candy for completing a Trainer Battle. Go to the main menu and click on Battle, then scroll down and select Training. While Training isn't the best chance to get Rare Candies, there's still a chance. For Great League Training you have a 1% chance of getting a Rare Candy, Ultra League Training is 3%, and Master League Training is 5%. For a 15% chance to get a Rare Candy, you must do PvP battles. For PvP you must be near other players, and you can find nearby trainers to battle from the Nearby menu.
How to Get Rare Candy XL
Rare Candy XL can be obtained similarly to regular Rare Candies. However, there are less methods to getting Rare Candy XL: You'll get 1 Rare Candy XL as a level up reward for each level past 40, with the exception of levels 45 and 50, which will reward you 2 Rare Candy XLs.
Win a Raid Battle when you're over level 31 and are battling in-person. You can get Rare Candy XL from Raid Battles just like normal Rare Candies, but there are two caveats: you must be over level 31 and you must be battling in-person. If you use a Remote Raid Pass to participate in a raid, you won't get any Rare Candy XL.
Complete Special Research tasks. Once you get to higher-level Special Research tasks (available after level 40) you can start earning Rare Candy XL from these tasks. You can view your research tasks by tapping on the binoculars icon in the bottom-right corner of the Pokémon GO main screen, and then by tapping the Special tab.
