Matthew Perry's Family Breaks Silence On 'Friends' Actor's Death: 'We Are Heartbroken...'

Matthew Perry’s family is “heartbroken” by the actor’s “tragic” death in Los Angeles on Saturday. The actor, best known for his role as Chandler Bing in American sitcom ‘Friends’, was found dead in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home, law enforcement sources told the LA Times, Variety reported.

Perry’s family has issued an official statement, saying that his fans and well-wishers “meant so much” to him. “We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of our beloved son and brother,” the family said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE. “Matthew brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and a friend. You all meant so much to him and we appreciate the tremendous outpouring of love.”

A few days before his shocking death, the actor had met his father, John Bennett Perry. Taking to Instagram, the Friends actor had also shared a photo with his dad and wrote, “Here is me, and my father John, both holding a beverage.” Much like Matthew, John is also an actor and has appeared in several films. This includes the 1996 release Independence Day, and 1997 film George of the Jungle.

Matthey Perry became a household name after playing the iconic character of Chandler Bing in the infamous American show ‘Friends’, which ran for 10 seasons from 1994 to 2004. He received a Primetime Emmy nomination in 2002 for his performance in the sitcom.

Prior to gaining worldwide popularity with ‘Friends’ alongside Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Courteney Cox and Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry also appeared on ‘Who’s the Boss?’, ‘Beverly Hill, 90210’, ‘Home Free’ and more. However, it’s his role of Chandler Bing that catapulted him to worldwide fame.
