Mohamed Salah, Sergio Ramos Circus Touches New Heights as Egypt Lawyer Files Lawsuit

The debate and the circus about whether Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos intentionally tackled the Liverpool star Mohamed Salah in the UEFA Champions League Final on Saturday in Kyiv rages on around the world, while the forward is in a race against time to get fit for the World Cup.

Reports suggest that an Egyptian lawyer has filed a 1 billion Euro lawsuit against Ramos for “intentionally” injuring Salah. Bassem Wahba reportedly said on Egyptian television that he would ask for compensation from the Spanish defender, and that is ‘could exceed 1 billion Euros’.

Wahba said on Sada-El-Balad, “Ramos intentionally injured Mo Salah and should be punished about his actions. I’ve filed a lawsuit and a complaint to FIFA. I’ll ask for compensation, which could exceed 1 billion Euros, for the physical and psychological harm that Ramos gave Salah and the Egyptian people.”

The lawyer is one of thousands who have made Ramos the villain for the injury that Salah is suffering from which has put his participation at the World Cup in doubt. Reports recently have also suggested that Salah, who is travelling to Spain for further medication, will miss Egypt’s first group game against Uruguay at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Apart from the lawsuit filed against Ramos, a petition which urges FIFA to punish Ramos for ‘intentionally hurting’ Salah is also doing the rounds on the internet and gathering momentum by the day, with more than 4,00,000 signatories to it already.

Many social media users, most of whom are Liverpool fans, Egyptians or both, feel that Ramos brought down Salah with a premeditated plan of ensuring that Egyptian cannot have any further effect in the final.

Things have reached an extent where a fan has compared the Spanish captain’s tackle to an incident between him and Dani Alves from last season’s Champions League final, in which the latter was playing for Juventus.

Ramos, on his part, put out messages on his social media accounts wishing Salah a speedy recovery. “El fútbol te enseña la cara más dulce a veces y la más amarga otras. Ante todo somos compañeros. Pronta recuperación, Salah. El futuro te espera.||Sometimes football shows you it’s good side and other times the bad. Above all, we are fellow pros. #GetWellSoon @MoSalah,” he said.

The Egyptian FA tweeted that it had been informed Salah had sustained “a sprain the shoulder ligaments” and the 25-year-old himself said in a tweet that he was confident that he will “be in Russia.”
