The Kylian Mbappe saga continues to leave the footballing world on edge, as latest reports state that the Frenchman has decided to leave Ligue 1 side PSG for Real Madrid in the summer.
According to a report from Le Parisien which has been echoed by many outlets in Europe, Mbappe has finally made his mind up about his and will join forces with Los Blancos in the upcoming summer window, after letting his contract with PSG run out.
It is also believed that if it all works out, the World Cup winner will be set to become Real Madrid’s highest-paid player when it is all said and done.
The report adds that negotiations between the interested parties are being carried out but is not a done deal yet. The World Cup winner reportedly ruled out a move to Liverpool next season but if he did move to Madrid, it would be a monumental coup for the Spanish outfit, especially as it would be on a free transfer.
According to ESPN, PSG reportedly offered Mbappe a pay rise on his €72 million gross salary, but their proposal was rebuffed by the France international. Sources have also said that by choosing to leave the club as a free agent, Mbappe will be opting out of bonuses that amount to around €100m.
His wages at Madrid, according to a source, are expected to be half of what he currently earns at PSG.
Madrid have been on the hunt for a proper classic number 9 and a goal-scorer since the departure of their Ballon d’Or winner, Karim Benzema who made his way to Saudi. Their lack of a lethal fox-in-the-box continues to be a glaring issue despite talents such as Bellingham and Vinicius Jr. stepping up to keep Los Blancos in contention for the league title.
Given Mbappe’s previous U-turn over a move to the Bernabeu in 2022, there is always the possibility that he could change his mind until the deal is actually signed by both parties. However, his move to Madrid now finally looks set to come to fruition this summer.
