New Delhi: Diego Forlan has won the Golden Shoe award as European football's top goalscorer this season, to add to the Pichichi prize he won for topping la Primera Division's charts.
The Uruguayan striker netted his 32nd goal in the league for Atletico de Madrid on Saturday evening and that assured him of the continental prize.
Netting in the 50th minute of Los Colchoneros' 3-0 win against Almeria saw Forlan equal Prudencio Sanchez's 1940-41 club record of scoring in eight consecutive league matches.
It was goal that took the former Manchester United and Villarreal forward's tally to 32 in 33 matches for the season and made him the first player to score more than 30 goals since Barcelona's Ronaldo netted 34 in 1997.
Samuel Eto'o finished in second place, two goals behind Forlan, despite playing in Barcelona's two matches before the Champions League final when a second string was fielded by coach Pep Guardiola.
Forlan has previously won the Golden Shoe award as he was Europe's top scorer in 2004-05 when he showed Manchester United what he was capable of after they let him join Villarreal.
A number of European leagues have yet to finish, but it is now highly unlikely that Forlan can be cuaght after Salzburg forward Marc Janko failed to find the net in the Austrian team's 4-1 home defeat by Altach on Sunday.
