Joleon Lescott is determined that the Red Devils will not secure a 20th success at the home of their rivals on April 30.

Manchester: Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott is determined to ensure that Manchester United do not lift the Premier League title with victory at the Etihad Stadium.

Roberto Mancini's men trail their city rivals by eight points at the top of the league with just six games remaining this season.

However, the England international wants to ensure that the Red Devils do not have the opportunity to seal a 20th league success with victory in the Manchester derby on April 30.

"We don't want to let them win it at the Etihad Stadium. We'll do everything in our power not to let that happen. It's not going to mean much if we do the double over United and lose the league but I'm sure that when that game comes around everyone will be raring to go," Lescott said.

The 29-year-old also went on to insist that City have not yet given up hope of closing the gap to Sir Alex Ferguson's side. "It's out of our hands but we've got to keep going and if United slip up then we've got to be there to capitalise," he told The Manchester Evening News.

"If they don't, then obviously it's going to be impossible for us to catch them now. We're professional and we owe it to the fans that we're not going to roll over and die. We've got to apply ourselves in the right way in every game."
