Meet IAS Anurag Jain, MP's Newly-appointed Chief Secretary
Anurag Jain hails from Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior and holds a degree in B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur.

Recently, IAS Officer Anurag Jain was appointed as the Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh. The Madhya Pradesh cadre officer who hails from Gwalior has been in the headlines after the news of his appointment.

Anurag Jain hails from Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior and holds a degree in B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur. He completed his degree from IIT in 1986 and was the second ranker of the college. After this, he decided to do civil services and started preparing for UPSC. He cracked the exam in 1988 and the following year, he became an IAS officer. Later, he pursued an MA degree in Public Administration from Maxwell University in the United States of America.

After joining the MP cadre, he became the Collector of various districts like Mandsaur, Mandla and Bhopal. While appointed as the District Collector, his work was highly appreciated. He has worked with many Chief Ministers. During his tenure, he has worked with the former CM Digvijay Singh and held various roles even during the tenure of Shivraj Singh Chouhan. He was later made the Finance Secretary of Madhya Pradesh during Kamal Nath’s reign in the state.

He has also served many ministries. In 2015, he was appointed as Joint Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office where he was responsible for co-ordinating with other ministries. During the time of Jan Dhan Yojana, he was made the Joint Secretary in the Finance Ministry and after the scheme was successfully executed, he was appointed in the Prime Minister’s team.

Did you know that Anurag Jain is also known as the Highway Man? Anurag Jain was posted as the Secretary of the Union Road Transport Ministry. He has completed many projects of the ministry and even speeded up the work of highway construction. Anuraj Jain also laid extra focus on PM Gati Shakti’s project. And hence, he was named as the Highway Man. Under the leadership of Anurag Jain, he has carried out many new experiments in the Road and Transport Department.

Apart from studies and bureaucracy, he also excelled at sports. He has won 11 National Awards in Tennis. He is also a cricket player and has represented Madhya Pradesh in this.
