'Why Not Bring Virat Kohli Back as Captain?': Ex-IND International Suggests Icon's Sensational Return to Lead RCB Again
Harbhajan Singh reckons that Virat Kohli should return as the captain for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru for the next IPL season.

For the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the former Indian off-spinner, Harbhajan Singh reckons that the franchise should consider giving the captaincy back to Virat Kohli to take the side forward from the next season.

Virat Kohli has had a fantastic performance in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League as he is leading the race for the orange cap (highest run-scorer) with 661 runs in the 13 innings he has played with a strike-rate of 155.16 as RCB remain in the hunt for a spot in the playoffs as they currently sit at fifth in the points table.

“If they don’t qualify, they should look to get some Indian guy. Why not bring Virat Kohli back as captain? As Dhoni has a lot of impact in Chennai, Virat Kohli is a big leader, he knows the kind of cricket they need to play,” Harbhajan said in the latest episode of the Star Sports’ Press Room.

Reflecting on RCB’s return to form and winning five games on the bounce, the former Indian international suggested that the brand of cricket they are playing right now resonates with what Kohli brings to the side as a leader as well.

He commented, “Now they are playing with a lot of aggression, a lot of intent and that is what Virat Kohli brings. I would like to see Virat Kohli leading the side going forward.”

The franchise will have a big call to make on whether they will retain the services of their current skipper Faf du Plessis who is 39 years old and his form with the bat has seen a considerable decline. The former South African international has only amassed 367 runs at an average of 28.23 and a strike rate of 168.35.

Considering the amount of money they could clear up by releasing Faf and the bowling attack in dire need of a quality addition, it could very well be a call taken by the Bengaluru-based unit for the mega auctions that take place next year.

Coming back to the ongoing season, the franchise will play their final league-stage fixture against the defending champions Chennai Super Kings at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on May 18, Saturday where both sides will be fighting hard and a win would mean that they could very well make it to the playoffs as well.
