MS Dhoni produced a moment of brilliance during IPL 2024 opener between CSK and RCB which drew huge cheer from the Chepauk crowd.

Chennai Super Kings’ five-time IPL-winning skipper MS Dhoni impressed everyone by completing a brilliant run out in this season’s opening contest against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Friday night.

The 42-year-old Dhoni came up with a terrific effort to dismiss RCB’s Anuj Rawat on the last ball of the innings and received a huge cheer from the home fans present at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Sanjay Manjrekar, who was part of the commentator’s panel, said that Dhoni might not have practiced the under-arm throw in the last year but the World Cup-winning skipper still seemed quite effortless.

“I don’t think he would’ve practiced this type of underarm throwing for over a year. It is so deep-rooted in his blood that he would rarely get it wrong. It’s the calmness of the mind that makes him focus on the stumps,” Manjrekar said on air.

Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina, who had played for CSK under the leadership of Dhoni, also heaped praises on the legendary skipper in an interaction on JioCinema.

“He has never missed it for many years. When he defends the total, he loses his gloves and throws overarm,” Suresh Raina said on JioCinema.

CSK, under the newly appointed skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, had a flying start to the IPL 2024 season after beating RCB by six wickets.

With this win, CSK maintained their dominance against RCB on their home soil as they have now won eight matches against them at Chepauk.

RCB haven’t won a match in Chennai the inaugural edition of IPL back in 2008.

RCB skipper Du Plessis won the toss and chose to bat first. At one point in the game, RCB were left reeling at 78/5 but Anuj Rawat (48) and Dinesh Karthik (38*) helped the team bounce back to post a fighting target of 173/6.

Chasing a total of 174, CSK did not face much trouble as they scored the winning runs with eight balls to spare. CSK’s opening batter Rachin Ravindra emerged as the highest scorer of his side as the Kiwi international scored 37 off 15 balls.

CSK pacer Mustafizur Rahman was adjudged Player of the Match for his spectacular figures of 4/29.
