WATCH: Dhruv Jurel Pays Tribute To MS Dhoni On His Birthday With Stunning Run Out
During the 2nd India-Zimbabwe T20I played in Harare, Dhruv Jurel paid a rich tribute to MS Dhoni by producing a stunning runout.

Indian wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel came up with a stunning attempt to run out Zimbabwe batter Wellington Masakadza in the second T20I played in Harare on Sunday (July 7). Jurel’s terrific throw was certainly reminiscent of MS Dhoni, who celebrated his 43rd birthday on Sunday. Fans also wasted no time in reliving memories of the legendary India skipper and his spectacular glovework.

Jurel’s brilliant attempt occurred during the 12th over of the game. Jurel exhibited his presence of mind and produced a direct hit to send Masakadza back to the dressing room on the very first delivery of the 12th over. Masakadza was dismissed for one run off three balls.

Reacting to the event, one social media user posted on X (formerly Twitter). “Dhruv Jurel is doing the things which MS Dhoni has done for the ages. He didn’t get much run in the first T20 but he is keeping has been impressive. We know he has a batting temperament, soon he will get some crucial runs in white ball Cricket also.”

Jurel’s comparison with Dhoni is not something new. Earlier this year, Sunil Gavaskar compared Jurel with the World Cup-winning skipper. Jurel had scored the winning runs in the Ranchi Test against England. He was drafted into India’s playing XI for the last three Tests against the English side. The 23-year-old played a vital knock of 46 in his debut inning at Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot.

In the Ranchi Test, he scored 90 runs in the first inning and 39 in the second inning to help India win the match.

While commentating during that match, Gavaskar said, “Watching the presence of mind of Dhruv Jurel makes me think he’s the next MS Dhoni in the making.” Jurel, however, played down the comparison.

“Thank you so much, Gavaskar sir, for comparing me with Dhoni sir. But I want to say personally that no one can replicate what Dhoni sir has done. There is only one Dhoni. Always was and always will be. For me, I just want to be Dhruv Jurel. Whatever I do, I want to do as Dhruv Jurel,” he said at the India Today Conclave 2024.

“But Dhoni sir is a legend, and he will always remain like that,” Jurel added.

Coming back to the T20I series against Zimbabwe, the Indian cricket team displayed a gritty performance in the second game to script a resounding comeback. Chasing a mammoth target of 235, Zimbabwe were bowled out for 134. In the opening fixture of the five-match T20I series, the hosts claimed a 13-run victory.
