Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders kicked off the IPL phenomenon in 2008 when Brendon McCullum’s whirlwind 158 off 73 balls set the ball rolling for the IPL juggernaut. 16 years on, these two teams have produced enough memorable matches and moments to build a classic franchise rivalry, but it has probably not reached the MI vs CSK or RCB vs SRH level of madness. However, with Gautam Gambhir back at his KKR – the franchise he led to two IPL titles—the RCB vs KKR rivalry could very well pick up business, owing mainly to what went down between the former Indian international when he was associated with the Lucknow Super Giants and Kohli.

It has been well-documented now what went down between the two teams and then Gambhir and Kohli during the two matches they played in IPL 2023. As the two teams gear up to face each other for the first time this season in Bengaluru, fans do not need much of a reminder. But, good folks at KKR know what sells, and they were quick to remind everyone what to expect, and they did not shy away from posting a couple of interesting images to spur up this intriguing sub-plot more. As for the match itself, It’s the second straight game for the Royal Challengers at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium after they faced the Punjab Kings (PBKS) earlier on Monday, March 25. The hosts beat them in a thrilling run chase by four wickets, with Virat Kohli showing his aggressive nature with the bat and Dinesh Karthik rolling back the years with his devastating finishing touch.
Meanwhile, KKR would have breathed a sigh of relief after beating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their opening game at the Eden Gardens. Setting a target of 209, KKR were in total control of the game when SRH needed 76 runs off the final four overs. However, Heinrich Klaasen and Shahbaz Ahmed threatened to snatch the game from KKR’s jaws of defeat, only for young bowler Harshit Rana to hold his nerve in the final over and help his side register a nervy four-run win.
