Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Shreyas Iyer shared a heartwarming moment with DC’s captain Rishabh Pant before the two sides squared off in what was an entertaining match for the fans.
KKR squared off against DC at Visakhapatnam on Wednesday and the match saw the visitors earn a massive win by 106 runs. Having recorded their third straight victory, Iyer shared a picture with the DC skipper on Instagram while lauding Pant for a standout performance against KKR in his comeback season after injury. “Great to see you on the field bro! Inspirational”, Iyer wrote. The heartwarming snapshot depicted the camaraderie shared by the two Indian cricketers.
Rishabh Pant missed the previous edition of the IPL after enduring a horrific car accident in December 2022. While travelling from Roorkee to Delhi, Pant lost control of his car before crashing on the road. The 17th season of the IPL is Pant’s first tournament since his recovery from the near-fatal accident. Pant displayed his terrific batting prowess against KKR, smashing a 25-ball 55 in a losing effort.

The KKR vs DC match at the ACA VDCA Cricket Stadium began with the former winning the toss and choosing to bat first. The duo of Phil Salt and Sunil Narine opened the innings for KKR, scoring 60 runs in 4.3 overs before the former lost his wicket. Narine departed next after scoring 85 runs in 39 balls while smashing seven boundaries and as many sixes. Debutant Angkrish Raghuvanshi produced a blistering knock for the KKR, scoring a 27-ball 54.

Andre Russell made sure that he got on the scoresheet as well, accumulating 41 runs in 19 balls. He was eventually dismissed by a near-perfect yorker from DC speedster Ishant Shama. After further contributions from Rinku Singh towards the end of the innings, KKR accumulated a gigantic total of 272 runs losing seven wickets. This was just five runs shy of the record for the all-time highest team score of 277 set by the Sunrisers Hyderabad against the Mumbai Indians earlier this season.

During the run chase, DC lost early wickets in their top order. At one point, the Pant-led side were reeling at 33 losing four wickets. KKR’s Mitchell Starc and Vaibhav Arora were impactful with each scalping two of those four wickets. Next, Pant and Tristan Stubbs built a solid partnership for DC but the hosts kept losing wickets in frequent intervals before losing all of their batters at a score of 166.
