India are set to take on South Africa in a three-match ODI series starting this weekend. Their previous T20I series ultimately played out to be a 1-1 stalemate after their opening game was tarnished due to rain. India and South Africa last competed in an ODI at the World Cup held earlier this year. In that match, India were spotless and recorded a 243-run victory.
The match saw Virat Kohli score 101 runs to help his side reach a total of 326. In the second half of the game, Ravindra Jadeja notched five wickets to curb the African nation to a mere total of 83 runs to seal a convincing win for the hosts.
India’s ODI opener will be hosted at the Wanderers Stadium in Standton on December 17. South Africa’s World Cup campaign came to a screeching halt at the hands of Australia in the semi-finals of the competition. Since then the hosts of the ongoing series have not competed in an official ODI game.
Given their humiliation in their last head-to-head against India, it will be interesting to see if South Africa can avenge themselves in the upcoming game. India’s notable absences could potentially end up costing them the match.
IND vs SA head-to-head:
India have taken on South Africa 91 times in One-Day Internationals. India have won 38 ODIs while South Africa have emerged victorious 50 times. Three of those clashes ended without a result. India will now be looking to close the gap in the upcoming series.
