Former Australian international, Brad Hogg reckons that India should continue to play Dhruv Jurel in Tests even after Rishabh Pant completely recovers. Hogg believes that Pant should return to domestic cricket to figure out if his body can sustain red-ball cricket before being hurried into the Indian Test team.
Jurel made his debut in the third Test against England in Rajkot and gave a tiny glimpse of his immense ability by scoring a mature 46-run knock. He built on his display in the third Test to register scores of 90 and 39* in the fourth Test in Ranchi as India won the game by five wickets.
That win helped India pocket the series 3-1 with one Test to go and thrust Dhruv Jurel into the limelight, helping India unearth yet another young gem. Jurel grasped his opportunity with both hands after India dropped KS Bharat following a string of poor performances.
On the other hand, Rishabh Pant has had to remain on the sidelines and undergo a strenuous rehabilitation process as he aims to return to fitness after suffering a near-fatal car accident late in December 2022.

“I think they will keep with Jurel and not go back to Pant quickly. I think they will make him go and play some first-class cricket in the longest format so that they make sure his body can withstand it and make sure, from a batting perspective, he still has the ability that he had before the accident,” Brad Hogg said on his YouTube channel. “I really hope that Pant gets back to playing Test cricket, but I feel it is a huge risk if they rush him back,” Hogg added.
Rishabh Pant is currently under the observation of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru and recently played a practice match in Alur. He has been granted the green light to feature in the 2024 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Pant will assume his duties as the captain of the Delhi Capitals.

Fans will be hoping to see Rishabh Pant back in national colours, with India set to feature in the upcoming Twenty20 World Cup in June. India will also tour Australia late this year to compete with Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, with Pant playing a pivotal role in both away series wins.
