A dramatic event featuring Alana King unfolded in the third women’s ODI between Australia and South Africa. The hosts won the toss and chose to bat first in the match, which is set to decide the fate of the three-match series levelled at 1-1. In the 48th over of Australia’s innings, King received a waist-high full-toss off South African pacer Masabata Klaas.
The Aussie all-rounder succeeded in connecting the delivery and smashed it over the deep square-leg region for a six. King, however, failed to maintain her balance in the process and ended up knocking off the bails with her bat.
In any other situation, she would have been ruled out, but King stayed on. why?
Well, unfortunately for Klaas, she had delivered a no-ball. The square-leg umpire was quick to adjudge her delivery a no-ball due to it being tossed at more than her waist length

After missing out on the T20I series, King made a roaring return in the opening ODI against South Africa. She scythed through the opposition’s batting order to grab a three-wicket haul as Australia won the low-scoring match by eight wickets. King looked quite pale in the second ODI where South Africa notched a 84-run victory to level the series.
King is one of the five spinners in Australia’s current white-ball squad, with stars like Ashleigh Gardner, Georgia Wareham and Jess Jonassen all vying for a place in the playing eleven. The 28-year-old, however, has never been bothered about the competition in the team. She feels it only pushes each player to make the most out of every opportunity.
Ahead of the ODI series against South Africa, King said, “I think we’re very blessed in Australian cricket and I think it brings the best out of us when there’s competition for spots we want to be performing at our best and playing our best cricket all the time. Being a human being, you’re always going to be frustrated when omitted. But in the group that we have, everyone’s got each other’s back, whether it’s the highs or lows.”
In the ongoing third ODI, Australia have posted a comprehensive total of 277 runs on the board. Beth Mooney remained unbeaten at 82, while captain-opener Alyssa Healy scored a half-century, scoring 60 runs off 73 balls.
