New Delhi: The stock markets opened on a dismal note on Tuesday with marginal losses in line with its Asian peers. The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark index Sensex opened up 23.20 points or 0.17% at 13,989.06, and the Nifty up 2.70 points or 0.07 per cent at 4,137 points.
By mid-day the 30-share index slipped further into the negative terrain with all the major scrips trading in the red. Top gainers on the Sensex were BHEL, ICICI Bank, SBI, HDFC and Ranbaxy Labs. Top losers on the Sensex were Suzlon, PNB, HPCL, Tata Power, TCS, Wipro and Satyam.
Index heavyweight Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 192.50 up 0.23% from its previous close of Rs 192.05. Reliance was trading at Rs 1,605.90 down 0.93% from its previous close of Rs 1,620.90. Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 1,971.00 down 1.56% from its previous close of Rs 2,002.20. Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 161.30 down 0.43% from its previous close of Rs 162.00.
Refinery major HPCL was trading at Rs 295.00 up 2.15% from its previous close of Rs 288.80. Major gainers, which gave support to the Sensex were Reliance Industries, State Bank of India, ONGC, Maruti Udyog, Tata Steel, Hindustan Lever and ITC Ltd.
However, a few stocks such as Satyam Computers, ACC and Reliance Industries met with profit-taking and were placed lower.
