New Delhi: A day after the UP Government asked the Centre to review Anil-Dhirubhai Ambani Group's Special Economic Zone in Noida, Chief Minister Mayawati on Friday put a second Anil Ambani project under the scanner, the Dadri power project.
Mayawati said her government will, in fact, review all major decisions of the previous Mulayam Singh government, including Reliance Energy's Dadri project.
The 3,740-MW gas-fired project is the first stage of what is expected to be the world's biggest gas-based power project (with a total capacity of 7,480 MW) proposed to be executed by Reliance Energy Generation at Dadri, Ghaziabad.
The project is already at an advanced stage and as per the plans of Reliance Energy, it will be commissioned by 2008-09. However, the Mayawati Government's announcement has now put the project in a limbo.
"We will look at all the decisions of the previous government and action will be taken if they are found violating the rules or against public interest," PTI quoted Mayawati as saying. She was addressing a press conference in New Delhi on Friday.
What the Chief Minister plans to bring under the scanner is the SEZ status accorded to the project. Mayawati, however, made it clear that the review will not be politically motivated. She claimed that Thursday's Cabinet decision to review the Noida SEZ project was "not influenced by any political consideration."
"The (Noida) SEZ was reviewed by a committee which found that rules have been broken. We will be sending a report to the Centre soon," she said.
While Dadri power project has received in-principle from the Board of Approval in the Commerce Ministry, the Noida multi-product SEZ is at an application stage.
The Anil Ambani Group, however, claimed on Friday that the proposed SEZ project in Noida did meet the contiguity norms with regard to land and was similar to Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries' 12,500-acre SEZ in Gujarat.
"We look forward to discussions with the UP Government and the Ministry of Commerce to resolve this issue," a Reliance ADAG spokesperson said in a statement a day after the UP Cabinet wrote to the Centre pointing to violation in the approval of a 1,200-acre multi-product SEZ in Noida.
