New Delhi: The markets made a splendid recovery during late trade and come out from deep crack of over 200 points to end in green.
The markets opened on strong note on Monday but slipped in early trade.
It traded under pressure throughout the day on the back of selling pressure across the board but saw splendid recovery to close in green with moderate gains.
The Sensex ended up 16.99 points or 0.12 per cent at 13,649.52, and the Nifty closed up 3.05 points or 0.08 per cent at 3,942. About 1203 shares had advanced, 1,296 shares declined, and 46 shares were unchanged.
BSE Midcap close up 44.79 points or 0.79 per cent at 5709.68 and BSE Smallcap ended down 1.72 points or 0.02 per cent at 6902.71.
BSE Auto ended up 58.29 points or 1.09 per cent at 5,394.94. Hind Motors, Tata Motors, Maruti Udyog, Bharat Forge and Ashok Leyland were up.
BSE Bankex closed up 62.06 or 0.93 per cent at 6,821.64. PNB, IOB, Bank of India, SBI, Canara Bank and Karnataka Bank gained.
BSE FMCG Index ended up 26.14 points or 1.46 per cent at 1,812.42. United Spirits, Shaw Wallace, ITC, Tata Tea and HLL were top gainers.
BSE Pharma closed up 21.88 points or 0.61 per cent at 3,632.50. Wockhardt, GlaxoSmithKline, Aventis Pharma, Dr Reddys Labs and Apollo Hospital were top gainers.
BSE IT ended up 7.76 points at 5,269.60. Moser Baer, Satyam, HCL Info, Mphasis and Hexaware Tech were up.
BSE Metal was up 223.9 points or 2.54 per cent at 9,022.83. Hind Zinc, JSW Steel, Sesa Goa, Guj NRE Coke and Welspun Guj were top gainers.
BSE Oil & Gas closed down 14.92 points or 0.23 per cent at 6,521.55. IOC, Chennai Petro, Reliance, Reliance Natural and BPCL declined.
BSE Cap Goods ended down 6.97 points or 0.08 per cent at 9,220.86. L&T, Aban Offshore, BHEL, ABB and Bharat Elec were top losers.
