New Delhi: The markets opened in green on Monday on heavy buying by funds.
The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex gained over 69 points in early trade.
At 0956 hrs IST, Sensex was up 69 points at 14251 and Nifty was up 16 points at 4106.
Major gainers in the opening trade were Reliance, ICICI Bank, Ranbaxy, Hindalco, Tata Motors, Rel Comm, Maruti and Reliance Energy.
However, HDFC Bank, Satyam, ITC, SBI, L & T and Bharti Airtel were trading under pressure.
Asian stocks also started the week on a positive note on Monday.
Japan's Nikkei gained 0.65 per cent or 112.93 points at 17,423.37, Hong Kong's Hang Seng surged 0.97 per cent or 197.56 points at 20,525.28, Singapore's Straits Times was up 1.51 per cent or 46.29 points at 3,119.17.
However, Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted slipped 0.05 per cent or 4.31 points at 7,835.77 and South Korea's Seoul Composite plunged 0.19 per cent or 2.55 points at 1,358.01.
The Dow Jones industrial average closed down 2.40 points, or 0.02 per cent, at 12,565.53.
