Major oil companies pulled up for not displaying MRP
Under the Weights and Measures Act, it is mandatory to display MRP and the date of refilling of cylinders

Kota: Three major public sector oil companies have been pulled up for not displaying the maximum retail price (MRP) on commercial gas cylinders, and also for not mentioning date and year when these cylinders had been filled.

The Weights and Measures Department has registered cases against sales officers and in-charges of bottling plants of Indian Oil Corporation, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation and Bharat Petroleum Corporation, sources said.

The department recently raided all gas cylinder supply depots of these companies in the city.

It is mandatory to give MRP and the date of refilling of cylinders as it helps avoid malpractices such as selling the cylinders at an inflated price.

Under the Weights and Measures Act, it is essential to display the said information along with the telephone number of the concerned official who could be contacted in case of any complaint and also a proper current price tag should be attached, officials said, adding that this is the first time that such a notice has been served to these companies.
