Janaushadhi Kendras are public pharmaceutical shops that offer a variety of medicines to the public at an affordable price. These shops come under a campaign called the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) that was launched by the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers, Government of India in 2008. The main objective of the campaign is to provide quality medicines at affordable prices to the masses through dedicated outlets.
Now, it has been reported that the government is offering loans at a cheaper rate to promote the opening of more Janaushadhi Kendras across the country. People who are interested in such shops can now apply for loans at affordable rates.
Ravi Dadhich, who is the CEO of the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI), has explained the entire process. He revealed that interested people will have to go to the website of Janaushadhi Kendras and fill out the online application. He added that after that, it is quite an easy process to apply for them. He said that when someone applies for Janaushadhi Kendra, they will be given initial approval. Based on the same, they will be able to set up their shop by obtaining a drug licence.
Ravi Dadhich also talked about the loans provided by the government. He said that an MOU is signed, and then a loan of up to Rs 4 lakh is proposed from the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) for opening Janaushadhi Kendra. This loan will be made available to the person through the GST Sahayak platform and its portal.
People who get their loans sanctioned will be able to use that money to buy furniture, computers and printers for the shop, for which help is not available through any other means. With these loans, all these expenses will be managed at affordable rates. The interest rate will be kept at 11 to 12 per cent. Apart from that, he also talked about how the government will also provide funds to fill the inventory. An MoU will be signed with SIDBI to provide funds to manage the supply of medicines in these Janaushadhi Kendras.
